you're just a young girl, but grief doesn't care. it takes over your life with little warning ( just the accompaniment of screeching tires ). it's a selfish friend. it won't settle for second best. so, it teams up with death until it's all you have left.
" … you know, if you think THAT is going to make me want my wand back so i can kill you any less, you’re poorly mistaken. i AM like my friends, hence why they’re my FRIENDS! so give me the wand back, i’ll make it quick and painless so i can get on with my day. and - i didn’t ask you to save me, so don’t think that by slapping some bread and paste on my stomach is going to make me spare your worthless life, gilbert. it doesn’t change what you are. “
" does anything get through that thick skull of yours? whether you kill me or not is the least of my concerns when there is a war going on! so, don’t think i’m going to bow down to you or beg. we’ll be lucky if we’re both standing at the end of this. did you know that your friends also killed my parents? i’m sure they’ll be thrilled to hear you finished off the family. oh, you’ll be such a hero! it’s really such a kind and moral crowd you associate yourself with. the same crowd that had left you behind to die. it’s mob mentality that almost killed you. i’d take that as a hint that you should sort out your priorities. also, i’d beg to differ. you’re alive, and so i’m clearly not worthless. you can call be any names you want, but it won’t change the fact that you’re a coward like the rest of your friends! “

Headcanon 001 // Fanboy
Long before they met, Elijah was an unwavering fan who pre-ordered every single one of Elena’s books. He was highly envious of her success because he’d given up his dreams to marry a woman who didn’t love him and start a family he’d never have. Not with her at least. Elena’s books were a beacon in the darkness, a foreshadow of what she would be when they finally met.
Headcanon 002 // Cryptic
After they started seeing one another ( professionally ), he started writing a novel of his own. It was a love story about a man in an unhappy marriage who meets a talented woman that brings him back to life. It started as a journal, but he was scared that Celeste would find it, so he turned it into a novel which was funny seeing as he was certain Elena would be the one writing this one. There’s a passage he read to Elena after he left Celeste initially, subtly proclaiming how he felt about her so as to assure her it was real to him.
Headcanon 003 // Rejuvenate
Both Elijah and Elena picked up old hobbies and habits that they used to enjoy long before they got into their slump. Elijah was playing the piano and cooking for fun again while Elena was writing again. They inspired and supported each other in their own way, and they began to heal together.
Headcanon 004 // Wedding Band
Elijah started taking his wedding band off before their sessions, and once, Celeste caught him without it after he’d forgotten it at the office. He claimed he’d left it on the sink in the bathroom at work. Needless to say, that fight lasted for hours, and Elijah stole away to call Elena and calm himself down. Part of him was thrilled by the idea of never wearing Celeste’s ring again.

Headcanon 001 // Every Rose has its Thorns
Damon has always thought that Elena was beautiful. There was never any doubt in his mind from the first time he saw her that she was a gorgeous girl, but it was drilled into him young that her kind was not to be fraternized with, and where Lily Salvatore drove it home with her vulgar verbal insults, Giuseppe Salvatore solidified it with his fists and cigars. And of course, there was Stefan to compete with, Damon constantly trying to earn his right to be heir although he forever questioned his parents. Still, no matter how beautiful she was to him, she wasn’t worth being labeled a traitor. Or so he thought at the time.
Headcanon 002 // The Fear of being Feared
It terrified him to no end when he realized that Elena had actually saved him. It threw a wrench into everything he’d convinced himself of, all that he had believed in. A large part of him thought it would have been better had she let him die because then, he never would have had to try and put it all into perspective. For everything that Damon was, he couldn’t just overlook deeds like this, and Elena had intrigued him before as it were, so to have her go through all this trouble for him was confusing because she must have known that all it would have taken was him summoning one of his friends, and she would have wound up dead on his behalf. In some way, she’d trusted her efforts, and he couldn’t stomach the idea of letting them go to waste.
Headcanon 003 // The Journey back
When they were forced to part ways, Damon had to make up a lot of excuses in order to face his parents. Going back to Salvatore Manor, he felt completely empty, like something were missing but he didn’t know what. His parents were more unbearable, and he couldn’t stand being around his old friends. Nothing made sense anymore, and he found himself searching for Elena on the platform as they headed back to school. In the first week back, he kept his distance, but after, he started staying out late in the dead of night to try and run into her. It was horrible. But not really.
Headcanon 004 // True Love
It would take Damon months to get to a place where he was confident in his beliefs, where he was certain he deserved her company, where he was determined to do good. It was during the battle when Elena was in danger that he cast his first patronus, based on a moment he’d spent with her on the astronomy tower just months before. She told him his dad was wrong, and that she wouldn’t give up on him. She scolded him for even asking her to. Finding strength in him, Elena cast hers too, and Damon saw that they were identical. He didn’t get to ask about it until after they’d won the war.
