@tenebriisx !!

             This summer was taking a drastic turn from what she had been expecting when she got off the Hogwarts Express. Sure, she knew that things would be bad after Dumbledore’s death, but it was getting progressively worse. She didn’t think it could top last summer when she had lost her parents, but it was beginning to prove her wrong. The muggle deaths were rising and she knew the truth to the lies that the Daily Prophey was selling to cover it up, but it was worth the five knuts to know what was happening in the wizarding world now that she back in muggle civilization. The muggle news was arguably worse with the daily ‘accident’ reports, and the ‘keep calm’ attitude was a joke.

               Elena and her aunt had agreed to stay in the house, except for when her aunt had to work. They were both hoping that if they stayed secluded maybe they wouldn’t be noticed, but it was a foolish thought. They were muggles living among a wizarding world that currently viewed them as worthless. It wasn’t safe for her here anymore and she desperately longed to be back on the train heading to Hogwarts, but little did she know that she’d be worrying about surviving first before she would be able to head back to Hogwarts.

               It started with the screams that woke her up in the middle of the night. It didn’t matter that she was still in her pjs as she slowly processed what was going on. When her sleepy mind caught on,  the girl immediately grabbed her wand before she headed straight for her aunt’s bedroom. After that, adrenaline kicked in and everything became a blur of motion. She remembered finding the bedroom empty and looking out the bedroom window. The streets had a group of Death Eaters setting houses on fire, and sending curses at the fleeing muggles.

             The girl backed away from the window, trying to hide in the shadows of the room when she saw the hooded figures turn towards her aunt’s house. Suddenly, the sound of glass breaking in the room alerted her and Elena muttered a curse under her breathe. The bed was quickly catching fire, and it was only a matter of time before the house would follow. She couldn’t stay and put the fire out, because to do so would alert the Death Eaters that she was in the house. No, she had to leave and so
she sprinted out of the room and made it to the back door where she escaped into the back yard. Her ponytail swayed in the warm breeze as she spun on her heel only to watch as the house was left to became engulfed in flames. Shock had rendered her paralyzed as if she was under a spell.

            The sight was enough to send anger coursing through her small frame. She had made it out alive, and now she had to keep moving. Her aunt could be anywhere and she had to find her, but her burning desire to make the Death Eaters pay was tempting. However, it wouldn’t be wise for one seventeen year old girl to try and stop a group of Death Eaters. She had to take cover, so she ran under the cover of the shadows to the back yard of the house next door, but she had tripped over a body that was in the middle between the two yards. Elena fell to the ground with a thud.

             By now, her vision had adjusted to the dark and she she could make out the figure of a fellow Hogwarts student lying next to her. It was Damon Salvatore, her own personal Malfoy. She fumbled for her wand and had it pointed at him before she realized he wasn’t moving, and slide the wand into the pocket of her jeans. She looked him over and saw he was in bad shape. She decided then that she would save one person tonight, so she grabbed his hand and clung to him tightly before using apparition ( it was lucky she had passed with flying colors ) to get them out of there before anyone noticed.

            She had brought them to a lake house she had gone to on her fishing trips with her father. It was a secluded place with tons of woods around it. They would make it into a weekend camping trip, and right now she felt like it would be the safest place. The two of them fell onto the grass with a thud, and once she caught her breathe she quickly looked over him for signs of splinching. A sigh of relief fell from her lips as he seemed ok, and she shifted to retrieve her wand. It was time for him to wake up now. She pointed her want at him and with one simple “Rennervate“ she hoped he would come back to consciousness. “Come on. It’s time to wake up now. We’re safe.” Elena whispered to him as she leaned over him.
